Hello! My Mother visited Club Med Cherating Beach, Malaysia in 1981 and suggested I should apply to be a G.O. I had no idea what a G.O. was or what they did but she assured me that with my hotel reception experience and dancing training I would fit right in! A few years later my dancing feet decided they needed to travel and off I went to discover what being a G.O. was all about.
I started my G.O. journey in the bank at Chateau Royal, New Caledonia in 1984. I left the season early in 1985 to take up the role of Head Cashier for the opening season of Farukolufushi, in the Maldive Islands. Nine months working and diving in the Maldives was a dream come true! Then I joined Jean-Luc Olivero’s team in Les Almadies, Senegal. I had no idea where Senegal was and had to look it up on a map but I was excited to work with Jean-Luc and some of the Maldives Team again. At the end of the season, I took the opportunity to backpack around Europe for eight months and met up with my Mother for a short stay at Club Med Gregliomano, where I learnt to waterski.
On my return to Australia, I started work in the Club Med Sales Office and the following year I took over as the WA State Manager. I managed the Perth Office for 10 years and during this time I travelled to all of the villages in the Asia zone and attended the opening of Club Med lindeman Island. During my holidays I visited the villages in Bora Bora, Moorea, St. Moritz, Val d’Isere, Copper Mountain… It was a wonderful life, and I got to meet up with some of my G.O. family and make many new friends.
I left Club Med in 1998 to start my own business. I transitioned from hospitality and travel into the training and education sector. I commenced university as a mature student at the age of 40 and eventually graduated with a Doctorate of Education in 2015. I retired from life as university lecturer in 2017 and since then I have been doing volunteer work within Australia and overseas. In my free time, I enjoy reading, crafting and travelling! My crafting passions are crochet, glass art, and resign designs.
I am very happy to connect with the broader G.O. family virtually through the Forever G.O. foundation and I look forward helping out from “downunder””.
